The shipping lines have recently introduced a policy of delivering empty containers direct to the wharf terminals rather than the traditional empty container park. These policies will deliver significant cost savings to all the shipping lines however their application has resulted in additional charges to the transport operators which will need to be recovered in the commercial marketplace. As a result any empty container that is dehired direct to the wharf terminal will incur an additional cartage fee of A$95 + GST per container.
